Launch of the AHRC Project ‘Pets and Family Life in England and Wales, 1837-1939’.

Pets and Family Life in England and Wales is a major new research project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and run by Dr Jane Hamlett and Professor Julie-Marie Strange at Royal Holloway and the University of Manchester. It is the first large-scale historical study of the relationships between families and their cats, dogs and other companion animals in modern Britain.
The launch will feature a short talk from leading expert on the history of pets Dr Philip Howell , author of At Home and Astray: The Domestic Dog in Victorian Britain and will be followed by a drinks reception.
